He didn't make it... first crab death.

Io passed away last week, of seemingly post-molt stress... He'd dropped a second limb (I assumed he had dropped the first right after his molt, but I guess it was from stress!) and was totally lifeless with his eyes clung together when I checked on him on the 5th of Feb. I tried a quick dip in water to see if there was any response... nothing. I re-covered him in the moss, and waited another day.

The next morning, as I took him out to check up on him, he fell out of his shell, and I got a whiff of a fishy odor...

This is the last photo I ever took of Io, just a week before he passed on.
















In memory of Io, whom never seemed to have the same colored eyes... even after his molt. Always the shy one, he was the first to meet Riven's crabs and spent a few days with them in Iso before everyone got moved into the main tank... I'll never forget how active and curious he was about the other crabs that day...
